The My Kind of Vet team at the Ormeau clinic, Gold Coast

Built from the ground up —
on purpose.

My Kind of Vet began with a simple idea — that a trip to the vet could feel completely different. I took over an existing Ormeau practice and reimagined it from the ground up: not just as a clinic, but as a whole new philosophy of care.

I'd spent years watching how stressful a vet visit could be — for pets, and for the people who love them. So I built the opposite: a calm, unhurried practice where every patient is treated as an individual, and every owner leaves with their questions answered. Later came At-Home Vet Services, for the pets and families who simply do better at home.

We're proudly independent — formerly Animal Options Vet Clinic at Blanck Street, and now in our purpose-built home on Zupp Drive, Ormeau. That independence matters: decisions about your pet are made by the vets who actually know your pet, not by a corporate policy.

Dr Anna Abdala

Owner & Principal Vet

I founded My Kind of Vet to build the practice I always believed in. I've been a vet for 15 years — the last 10 here on the Gold Coast — with a special interest in behaviour, complex medical cases, and integrative care including acupuncture. Evidence-based medicine, delivered with warmth.

The things that
guide every visit.

Education

We explain what's happening in plain language, and we welcome your questions — always. Not sure about something? Bring it up next time.

Relationship

We're not a drop-in service. We get to know your pet by name, history, and personality — for the whole of their life.

Individuality

Every patient is different, with their own needs and quirks. We tailor our care to your pet — not to a template.

High-level medicine

Calm and warm doesn't mean less thorough. We deliver genuinely high-level medicine — just delivered gently.

Everyone's welcome here

Come as you are — we'll meet you there.

My Kind of Vet is a place where every person, and every pet, is met with warmth and respect — no exceptions.

We speak your language

Between us, our team speaks English, Portuguese, Mandarin and Afrikaans — so more of our community can talk through their pet's care in the language they're most comfortable in.

LGBTQ+ friendly

You and your family are safe and welcome here, always. We use the names and pronouns you give us — no questions, no fuss.

Breastfeeding welcome

Feed your baby wherever and whenever you need to — the waiting room, the consult room, anywhere you're comfortable. You never have to ask.

Access needs, accommodated

If anything makes a vet visit harder for you — hearing, sight, mobility, sensory needs or anything else — just let us know, and we'll adapt how we do things so it works for you.

Things people often
ask about us.

Were you Animal Options Vet Clinic?

Yes — My Kind of Vet is the same team that cared for your pets as Animal Options Vet Clinic on Blanck Street, Ormeau. In March 2026 we moved into our purpose-built clinic at 3/31 Zupp Drive, with a new name to match the way we practise. We're not connected with the clinic that now operates at our old Blanck Street address — if you're looking for us, we're at Zupp Drive.

Who owns My Kind of Vet?

We're an independent, vet-owned practice. Dr Anna owns the clinic and is here every week, so every decision about your pet's care is made by the vets who actually know them — never by a corporate office.

How experienced is the Ormeau vet team?

Dr Anna has been a vet for more than 15 years, with the last 10 spent caring for pets here on the Gold Coast. She's joined by Dr Melody and Dr Sonja, and a nursing and reception team who share the same calm, unhurried approach.

Do you treat animals other than dogs and cats?

We care for dogs and cats only. Keeping our focus there is part of what keeps the clinic calm — and it's why cats get their own separate reception, consultation room, and hospital ward.

Do you speak languages other than English?

Yes. Between us, our team speaks English, Portuguese, Mandarin and Afrikaans — so more of our community can talk through their pet's care in the language they're most comfortable in. Let us know if it helps to have a particular team member on the day.

Can you accommodate a disability or access need?

Absolutely. If anything makes a vet visit harder for you — being hard of hearing, low vision, reduced mobility, sensory needs, or anything else — just tell us and we'll adapt how we do things so it works for you. A quick heads-up when you book means we're ready before you arrive.

Is My Kind of Vet a welcoming, inclusive clinic?

Wholeheartedly. Every person and every pet is met with warmth and respect here — no exceptions. We're LGBTQ+ friendly and use the names and pronouns you give us, breastfeeding is welcome anywhere you're comfortable, and access needs are happily accommodated. Come as you are.

Come and meet us in person.

We'd love to show you and your pet around. Book a visit, give us a call, or come see the space we built.
